Osteopathy for Babies — Supporting little bodies from the very beginning
Birth is a huge physical experience for both baby and parent. Whether a birth is straightforward or more challenging, babies can sometimes develop areas of tension or altered movement that may affect how comfortable and freely they move.
Paediatric osteopathy uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques to assess and support your baby's movement and physical function. Treatment is always guided by your baby's individual needs and may include very gentle hands-on and cranial techniques.
Parents may seek osteopathic care when their baby is experiencing:
Reflux, colic, gassiness or digestive discomfort
Constipation or difficulty settling
Feeding difficulties, whether bottle or chest-fed
Nasal congestion or difficulty turning the head comfortably
Flat head shape or positional asymmetry
Torticollis or a preference to look in one direction
General tension, unsettledness or difficulty getting comfortable
Osteopathy for Children — Supporting growing bodies
Children are constantly changing. As they grow, develop new movement skills and become more active, their bodies are continually adapting to new physical demands. Osteopathy can provide gentle, individualised support to help children move comfortably and confidently through these changes.
We may work with children experiencing aches and pains, movement restrictions, sporting injuries, postural or movement concerns, or those simply looking to support their physical development and activity. Treatment is tailored to their age, stage of development and individual needs, and may combine gentle hands-on techniques with simple movement exercises.
Whether they're learning a new skill, keeping up with their friends, playing sport or navigating a growth spurt, our goal is to help children develop a positive relationship with movement and feel confident in their bodies.
A tailored approach, always
Our approach is always age-appropriate and responsive.
We work around your baby rather than expecting them to work around the treatment. If they need a break, feed, or cuddle, or simply aren't enjoying a particular technique, we adapt accordingly. Most babies find cranial osteopathy treatment so soothing, they just fall asleep! But sometimes they can find it a bit uncomfortable, so we will always work around the baby and parent to make sure both are as comfortable with treatment as possible!
Treatment for children is age-appropriate, and may be a balance between gentler cranial osteopathy techniques or treating them as though they are littler adults. But as always, treatment will be tailored to each child depending on what they are comfortable with.
Most importantly, osteopathy is complementary care. Where symptoms may require medical assessment, we will always encourage you to involve your GP, paediatrician, midwife or other appropriate healthcare professional.
