What is Osteopathy.
Osteopathy is a form of alternative medicine that uses patient-centered hands-on approaches to examine, understand, and treat a variety of physical conditions.
It is a holistic, whole body, hands-on therapy that works to optimize all the major systems of the body, including the musculoskeletal, nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems in order to achieve improved physiological function and homeostasis.
The overarching principle of osteopathy is to find the underlying cause of the patient’s problem, rather than simply treating the symptoms. Osteopathic practitioners use a combination of joint articulations, soft tissue techniques, stretching, mobilizations, and cranial osteopathy techniques.
It is also effective as a preventative therapy, working to ensure the body continues to function optimally and minimize the risk of injury and/or pain. Osteopathy can be used safely to compliment other medical services and interventions, including your GP, physiotherapists, massage therapists, midwives, surgery, and medication.
